And in such moments, I conceive some of the craziest photos, and crazier captions to go with them. But sometimes, I just end up taking what I think are really neat or heart-warming photographs and later thinking up reasonably appropriate and clever captions. As a very enthusiastic photographer, I tend to click away a great deal even when there is no great memory crying to be preserved. Such moments very often occur outside home, with family nowhere in sight, and outside campus, with friends nowhere in sight. A lot of those photos, therefore, have no better place in the gallery than an album like this. Every moment cries to be recognised for the great message it is sending you about why there never will be another place and time like four years in IIT Madras. And garbled as the transmission may have been in the previous three years, it does somehow get through in the fourth - loud and clear. And yet somehow, even while this year signals the sunset of life in IITM, it is just the beginning of life at large, rather, of a return to a world that we have been so insulated from for four years. And the lessons pour in heavier than ever. On the one hand, you are among the elders of the tribe - you're wise, and you're revered; on the other, you're wrestling with the confidence that would still rather desert you as you step out into a hungrily waiting world. You're wrestling with your unwillingness to leave, because you don't want to believe that life outside IIT can be good, though you fear it will be. This is the year I wrestled. And won. Saarang 1998 was the crucial experience that sent my inspiration to get here into overdrive. If a tenth grader could be so blown away by IITM, then I could only imagine how much better it would be if I were here at this right place at the right time. My first year in IITM, 2000-01 was rather sadly, poorly documented. However, this year saw the complete fulfillment of all the expectations that my zeroth year had left me with.
